I’m a chef by profession and I’m letting you all know that you don’t get Swine Flu by eating pork. Not unless the person serving you the pork sneezes on you while you are at the restaurant. So now is the time to stop watching CNN and freaking out, just settle down, open an encyclopedia and read up on “Flu”. You could also try WebMD and get yourself straight.

Well, if these are the people that will be running things I expect you won’t want to be anywhere near it. The State of Connecticut Public Health Committee voted in favor of the SustiNet Bill but pushed the proposed start date back 6 months into the next budget cycle preventing a huge spike in the state’s projected budget deficit for Fiscal Year 2010-11, which is what caused the bill to be killed the last it reared it’s Leninesque head. The Stamford Advocate reports;

“…according to OFA’s (the *ahem*so called Non Partisan Office of Fiscal Analysis-nw) analysis, SustiNet might need an investment of at least $25 million upfront to lay the groundwork for the program to start in the summer of 2011.”

and my personal favorite…

“Janet Davenport, the Universal Healthcare Foundation’s vice president of communications, could not dispute fiscal office’s conclusion.

“To be truthful, we don’t have that figure,” Davenport said of the startup cost. “What we’re hoping is that the legislature would put together a group to figure that out.”

So let’s get this straight, you know this is going to cost tons of money because you are making the effort to hide the startup cost from your constituents but in the end you have no clue what the full cost will be once this plan reaches fruition.

“I hate cliches,” Davenport said. “But we don’t want to be penny-wise and pound-foolish.”

I hate that the state that squandered multiple yearly budget surpluses wants to manage my healthcare. I’ll be dead inside a week.

Welcome to Connecticut Blues. While certain I am not the last conservative in the Great State of Connecticut, I sure feel like it sometimes! The irony that my title concept opposes my politics suits me. Moving forward, I won’t be solely about politics, since that is not the only thing I have interest in, but it will be my primary focus.
